Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States

Whether we voted for him or not, we have to admit, this is history in the making. He is the first person of African decent to become president! We have come such a long way since the days of slavery and for that, I am grateful!

"This is not just a victory for black people," said Maceo Dailey,
a University of Texas at El Paso professor who is also the director of the school's African-American Studies Program. "It is a victory for all Americans in general. It is a new day for all of us, and in a sense, Senator Obama is helping us reach our destiny.

Dailey said that destiny hopefully would no longer include the
historically internal battles that America has had with racism,
classism and gender racism, but would be a destiny that finally
fulfills what Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence-"that all men are created equal." El Paso Times
