Irma's Bridal Shower

For those of you who don't know, Irma was my best friend in college. We had a blast together, so much in fact that I remember one evening, before going out, I went to pick her up and she came to the door and told me, "My dad wants to talk to you." Ok, I had no idea what to expect so I went in.....a little nervous. I don't remember the exact words of the conversation but he actually started telling me that he wanted his daughter home at a decent hour. It was so weird. I felt like her boyfriend in some strange way. I do have to admit we would stay out kind of late but we never did anything bad or that we'd regret. It was simply innocent fun and we were always in the company of members of the church.
I remember one weekend our ultimate all time favorite singer was coming into town and we knew he'd always stay at the Camino Real hotel. So what did we do? We got a room there with the hopes we might meet him. Oh my gosh, that was so much fun! He was performing two days so we figured we had a good chance of meeting him. Well, two tickets (which were about $100 each), and one hotel room later all we got to see was his limo and luggage, not to mention the trouble we got into trying to go up to his room. We had so much fun though! It was well worth it. (In the picture on the left Irma's on watch, waiting to see if she see's Luis Miguel outside the hotel.)

Irma, would always say that she was never going to get married. "I just don't feel like it's going to happen," she'd say. "Whatever Irma," I'd always exclaim! Well, the time has come and she's met the most wonderful person! I can't even begin to explain how happy I feel for her. She deserves every bit of this and more! She is going to make the perfect wife and mother. I love you Irma!!

Right now Irma is in the nursing program at UTEP and it's surprising she even found time for her own bridal shower, hence the nursing outfit she's wearing. She graduates this December! Talk about perfect timing.

Painting with Mr. Ocean

I made the finger paints out of pudding and food coloring. It was so cute, everytime he'd get his hands dirty he'd have to clean them and then he'd start over. This activity was really fun, we really enjoyed it.

Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States

Whether we voted for him or not, we have to admit, this is history in the making. He is the first person of African decent to become president! We have come such a long way since the days of slavery and for that, I am grateful!

"This is not just a victory for black people," said Maceo Dailey,
a University of Texas at El Paso professor who is also the director of the school's African-American Studies Program. "It is a victory for all Americans in general. It is a new day for all of us, and in a sense, Senator Obama is helping us reach our destiny.

Dailey said that destiny hopefully would no longer include the
historically internal battles that America has had with racism,
classism and gender racism, but would be a destiny that finally
fulfills what Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence-"that all men are created equal." El Paso Times

Dad in Town

My dad came down for a couple of days before heading out to Arizona to visit my sister and the kids. It was a very nice visit.

Thanks for visiting Dad! We love and had a lot of fun. Come back soon!

Happy Halloween

Ahoy Mateys! This year Danny got to wear a costume that Grandma Jessup made for her boys when they were small. Kendal actually posted a picture of Clifford in this costume on her blog. To see it, click here. Unfortunatley me and Cecilio were party poopers this year and didn't dress up. Did I regret it? Yes. Will I dress up next year? For sure!!!

Here he is with Anita and Tio Pillo.

Here he is with Midnight, my aunt's new dog. He's so tiny!

Notice Midnight falling asleep in Danny's shirt.

My brother Daryl, dressed up as a Dexter survivor.

I thought it was a pretty creative costume!

As a tradition we usually go to our family's homes for Halloween. That way family can see him in his costume. Well upon taking Danny's pumpkin down from the truck I noticed it was VERY heavy. I decided to weigh it just for kicks.......it weighed three pounds!!!
