An Itch

For some reason I've had this itch to sew! Last week I took out my sewing machine. It's been over 3 years since I've used it. Don't get the wrong idea, I don't really know how to sew. The extent of my sewing consists of curtains made out of sheets, and throw pillows. That's it.

As I was practicing, the thread kept getting all knotted up so I decided to take it to my grandma's. It turns out the needle was in backwards and I wasn't threading it right. (You see, I know pretty much zero when it comes to sewing.) ANYWAY, after getting through a few obstacles, I finally made this pillow. Now, I'm not putting this on here to show off or anything. For journal purposes, I want my kids to know that I was somewhat of a domestic diva! We'll see, maybe I'll attempt something more challenging next time!

Feeling a Little Crafty

When we were pregnant with Danny, my aunt Veronica made us a beautiful plaque with Daniel's full name on it. I absolutley loved it!! So much thought had gone into his name and I just loved being able to see it and the fact that it was handmade made it extra special. A few weeks before going down to Arizona for the birth of Lily and Mike's baby I began to feel a little crafty and decided to try and make them a plaque of their own for their new baby. What a project it was! I was determined to make it as perfect as possible. It took me about a week but I have to say I am very pleased with the finished product.

Here is a picture of their crib. I wanted to try and match the plaque to it.

One week later, finished product, Yay!!!!

Strawberry Jam

A few weeks ago I decided to try and improve my skills in the kitchen. I had fallen into a rut, cooking the same things over and over and dreading what to cook for the next meal. I just can't say I enjoy cooking very much. Well, instead of dreading it I have decided to make it a strength of mine. I figured I'm going to have to do it for pretty much the rest of my life, might as well have some fun with it.

This weekend my Grandma made jam, so I decided I would go over to her house and learn. She made her batch and then let me make mine. I have to say I was very surprised how easy it was to make. I thought it would be this long process but no. It only took about 30 minutes. The satisfaction I got out of it, however, was priceless. It didn't set very well but it came out delicious. Here's to the first step in my quest to become better in the kitchen.
